United States Ambassador Donald Tapia recently led the official handover ceremonies of mural paintings within the communities of Rose Town and Standpipe, St Andrew. These murals have been created by partnership between the US Embassy’s Public Affairs Section and the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts.

Noted American muralist Phillip Martin led the creative design of each mural, with significant input from residents of the communities. These paintings represent Martin’s 59th and 60th mural paintings, respectively.

The murals were uniquely designed to incorporate elements of each community and symbolise friendship and partnership between Jamaica and the United States. Ambassador Tapia participated in the ribbon cutting at each location and delivered brief remarks. He took the opportunity to encourage the spirit of volunteerism within the communities.
