It was in St Ann’s Bay that Christopher Columbus is assumed to have landed when he first ‘discovered’ Jamaica in 1494. Columbus named the spot he landed on Santa Gloria, claiming that the land was the most beautiful he had ever laid eyes on.
The first monument of Christopher Columbus in Jamaica was unvelied at the Columbus Day ceremony held on the grounds of the Seville Shrine in St Ann on October 12, 1957.
Here are photo highlights of the monument over the years.
