Nelson and Winnie Mandela made a hectic 24-hour visit to Jamaica on July 24, 1991. Their reception was emotionally charged as thousands jammed the National Stadium for a rally in Nelson Mandela’s honour.

Mandela was conferred with an honorary Doctor of Laws degree by The University of the West Indies, and Winnie was presented with the keys to the city of Kingston.
