Online school in grade six

An experience shared by Kristen Lobban

When we first heard about the pandemic and online school, most of my classmates were excited and we only thought it would be two weeks. Little did we know, we would spend the rest of Grade Five studying online. It was really easy to get distracted as we were very comfortable in our own homes. Lots of students would log onto class, turn off their camera and microphone, and then leave to do other stuff. There were also a lot of Internet problems or power outages.

Going to school continued to be delayed until January 4, 2021. We all had mixed opinions because some of us were quite used to being home while others didn’t have the teachers’ notes in their books. But, when we went back to face-to-face, everything was much better and most persons’ grades were going up. About two months later, we went back to online school, which honestly crushed me. They said it would only be two days, but when they said it was delayed for 2 more weeks, I already heard that story before and lost hope.

Then PEP was delayed for a second time and then it was changed to only the Mental Ability test. I wasn’t very happy about that, but what could I really do? We continued on online school for two more months and then we finally went back to face-to-face. I can already see how much better face-to-face really is. PEP is next week and I have been preparing for this exam since Grade Four. I am very grateful that I had amazing teachers and parents to guide and help me along the way. I am very confident in myself and I will make sure to do my best.

Thank you for reading and I hope you have an amazing day.
