Mexico to strengthen consular protection for migrants
The Mexican government says it will set up a toll-free number for Mexicans in the United States to get information or report incidents.
The foreign relations department announced the measures on Wednesday, one week after Donald Trump won the US presidential elections.
The department didn't mention Trump in the statement, but the US president-elect has said he plans to deport two million to three million immigrants soon after taking office.
The department said the network of 50 Mexican consulates in the United States would make more efforts to reach out to its citizens.
The Mexican government also plans to "strengthen the dialogue with state and local authorities" in the US.
It advised Mexicans living in the United States "to avoid any conflict situation".
