Real estate developer Lloyd Williams is taking on his first venture in Jamaica, Kensington Gate, a seven-storey residential complex costing $500 million.

The principal owner of J.M.D Williams Innovative Homes & Design Limited says land for the project was purchased back in 2007 on Kensington Crescent in New Kingston. The complex will comprise one two- and three-bedroom units, and buyers get to personalise their purchase by selecting their own "tiles, flooring, cabinets, countertops and hardware fittings".

"This is our first development in Jamaica, however we have done other developments in England, including new buildings, new apartment buildings, warehouse construction and more," said Williams.

He said the current venture is self-financed.

The project was launched last September, with Williams citing planning plan modifications for delays to starting construction of the complex.

He now says work began in earnest in March and is to be finalised by July 2019.

Realty firm Coldwell Banker Jamaica is advertising the three-bedroom units in Kensington Gate for $45 million.
