BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Motorists in Barbados who paid their road tax between June 12 and 30, 2018, can now request a refund from Government.

This was disclosed by Prime Minister Mia Mottley who said that during a meeting last week, Cabinet agreed that eligible motorists could write the Ministry of Finance and ask for the refund.

“We can check and see when your time [for renewal] came up at BRA [Barbados Revenue Authority] and once that is verified, then the Government will give you back 75 percent of what you paid and…will retain 25 percent as an administrative fee. Similarly, with commercial vehicles, because they have the registration fee, [so] instead of a refund, theirs will be applied to next year’s fee,” she indicated.

Stating that the process of writing the Ministry was not new, she noted that currently, if a person’s car was involved in an accident and it was off the road for a month or two, he or she would write the Ministry of Finance and ask that a proportionate part of their road tax not be payable.
