13 arrested in Trinidad over plot to assassinate state witness

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Thirteen men are now in police custody in connection with a plot to murder a state witness as he exited court on Wednesday.

A spokesperson in a statement from the police said that strategic planning and diligent work by officers of the Northern Division Special Investigations Unit led to the arrests.

The spokesperson added that cops took up strategic positions in and around the precincts of the court between 8:00 a.m and 6:00 p.m on Wednesday.

The official said that surveillance was paid to activities and persons in the area, which led to the subsequent arrest of the men.

The vehicles used by the men that were parked in the vicinity of the court were also seized during the exercise.
