GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has announced plans to introduce a new driver’s licence, that will be more durable and secure.

The new licence will be launched within the next two weeks.

The GRA said the change will be reflected for the issuance to drivers of motor cars, motorcycles, motor vans, motor lorries, motor buses, minibus and motor tractors.

“Compared to the previous licence, the new card will have advanced security features to guard against reproduction, tampering or damage, features which will allow for universal acceptance,” GRA said in a recent statement.

This upgrade was spearheaded by the GRA’s Information Technology Unit following the initial launch of the first plastic card driver’s licence in March 2014.

The new driver’s licence will be available before Christmas 2019 and will have a five-year validity period at a cost of GUY$5,000.

However, the fee is waived for drivers over 65.

When launched, the new licence will only be issued to first-time applicants and those whose licence has expired.
