Dominican on alert for seismic activity

The Office of Disaster Management says the emissions are being investigated and the public will be updated.

ROSEAU, Dominica CMC –
Dominicans are on alert for a seismic activity after reports of emissions from the Soufriere area.

The Office of Disaster Management (ODM), says the emissions are being investigated and the public will be updated.

“The ODM is in contact with the Seismic Research Centre of the University of the West Indies in Trinidad that is responsible for monitoring seismic activity in Dominica,” said ODM coordinator, Fitzroy Pascal.

He has advised the resident to stay clear of the area until further notice.

Dominica has the highest concentration of dormant volcanoes in the world.

The country is essentially made up of volcanic rocks and geothermal activity are associated with the Plat Pays volcanic complex.

The largest area is located on the margin of the Soufrière depression in the Sulphur Springs National Park region.
