Guyana: Police searching for motorist who drove into crowd at a wedding

The driver was caught on video driving away from the scene while the injured persons were left on the roadway.

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – Police in Guyana were continuing their search on Monday for the motorist who drove his vehicle into a crowd at a wedding on Sunday killing one person and injuring three others, including an 11-year-old boy.

Police have since identified the deceased as 51-year-old Somdatt Indal, also known as 'Fats'.

They said those injured are Daniel Sackichand, 21, Dion Kistnen, 11, a student of Canje Secondary School, and 34-year-old Leon Revon.

The authorities said that they were at a wedding ceremony when the incident occurred at Canefield Settlement, East Canje Berbice. 

Media reports said that a young man at the wedding and others were involved in an argument when he phoned his cousin, a contractor, who arrived in his vehicle.

According to eyewitnesses, persons attempted to block the vehicle when the driver drove into the crowd.

The driver was caught on video driving away from the scene while the injured persons were left on the roadway.
