Karry-Ann Scorpian blazing a trail

It's been a long time coming, but it seems that Jamaica born, United States-based recording artiste Karry-Ann Scorpian is beginning to see the fruits of her labour.
She travels to Jamaica regularly to perform, collaborated with Zagga (My Destination) on the Island Girl EP, and worked with local producers like Tevin of YGF Records and with reggae producers in the US.
So When You're Sorry (her remix of Justin Bieber's Sorry) started to gain traction through airplay in Jamaica and overseas, it can only be described as just reward for all the effort she has been putting out over the past few years.
But while Scorpian's You're Sorry is being propelled up playlists, she has refused to break her stride and sit back and enjoy the attention. Rather, she's back in the studio preparing to launch what she hopes will be a song to push her further into the limelight.
"I just recorded a track called Mental. It's on the Story rhythm for producer Kooly Chat, based in Brooklyn,"Scorpian told Entertainment Avenue.
Recorded at Chat's King Heartbeat Studio, the rhythm also features Jigsy King, Prophet-Z, Tuffest, Fats, Noah, Xstream, and BMWA, among others.
Kooly Chat, as engineer, has worked with several Caribbean artistes over the years, including Fayanne Lyons, Nyah George, and Jamaica's own Coco Tea and Charly Black. As a producer, he is known for his style of blending reggae and dancehall with other genres.
Last Thursday, Scorpian was actually featured on WNYU radio (New York University's radio station) with DJ Mush One as the station promoted the Story rhythm.
"The song Mental talks about when you're mentally ready, yuh brain tun up, to deal with things. It a seh, pretty dunce out a style, yuh haffi use yuh head. Basically, it's not enough to be pretty. It's a positive message with a sexy to it."
She continued: "I just want to take my music to the world. From right here in America to Canada, to Europe. Right now, Sorry is being played in Canada, in Europe, in Africa, where DJ Black in Ghana is playing it. DJ Local is playing my music on Buzz Radio in the UK. He's playing Sorry, Repping for Mom, Island Girl. So we're getting good response at the international level. There's the strong intent to let the world know who I am and where I'm from. Karry Ann come fi mash it up!"
In Jamaica, Scorpian has special words of thanks for promoter Andy Streets and Tevin and the crew from YGF Records and Junkyard Music Productions, who were instrumental in the production of the Island Girl EP.
"Big up all you guys and thanks a whole lot."
Scorpian is now gearing up to do some work with artiste-producer Elleven as she strives to keep the fire blazing on her career.
