Vogue hails Pulse's Alicia Burke - Described as one of 'six bombshells taking over modeling world'
On a new snapchat post, Vogue magazine hails Pulse's hot, new supermodel, Alicia Burke, as one of 'six bombshells taking over the modelling world'.
Burke, a clear favourite among the new stars quickly rising to the top, has only been on the international model market for nine months, while the others have been in the industry far longer. She is also the only black model among the six featured.
While Burke does not outrank some of the established supermodels who have been in the business for years, she is the new star that Vogue and the entire industry have their lens firmly trained on. Not only is she getting the prized assignments, but everyone is talking.
Vogue said earlier this year, "when a great model arrives, everyone takes notice". After the recent collections (which ended a month ago), they referred to her as "the model Ralph Lauren, Stella McCartney, and Dolce & Gabbana can't get enough of". Models.com hailed her as "the perfect canvass", and the New York Times also took aim. While announcing her debut in New York this September, the major publication noted her outstanding work on European runways, highlighting "fall winter 2016 collections (Bottega Veneta, Miu Miu among them) and, more recently, Gucci resort and Schiaparelli's haute couture show".
Just out is her new Ralph Lauren campaign, with her Coach campaign to follow shortly. In addition, she shot two new campaigns in New York this week, which can't be disclosed until released ahead of the holiday season, being part of her exclusive agreements with some of the world's most highly regarded brands.
In Milan, then Paris, she closed the 2016 spring summer season, doing runway duties for a select group of super brands including Dolce & Gabbana, Armani, Stella McCartney, Salvatore Ferragamo, and Francesco Scognamiglio.
Her love affair with Vogue is firmly reflected in the fact that the planet's top style arbiter has put its money where its mouth is, booking the Jamaican beauty for multiple editions of the magazine, including 12 pages of French Vogue (appearing alone), shot by David Simms, and two separate editions of Italian Vogue, the publication of which is awaited by Burke and all her connections with bated breath.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
In a recent interview, Burke told Vogue that her career highlights thus far included "seeing herself in the pages of Vogue's French edition and trying out Gigi Hadid's Tommy Hilfiger capsule collection before anyone else. I am in love with Tommy by Gigi", said Burke. "I would go home with any item from that collection."
She was keen to give Jamaica lots of props, saying, "Jamaica is such a beautiful island ... it's the birthplace of reggae music, and most importantly, it's home."
Alicia was also keen to mention that her start came from Pulse's Caribbean Model Search and admitted that she didn't initially realise just how far the contest would take her.
"I entered the contest back home last year and I won. Things just took off from there. I never imagined that I would get to walk for the likes of Ralph Lauren, Dolce & Gabbana, and Stella McCartney. Its such an honour and a dream come true."
In her very brief international career to date, Alicia's client list has grown to include French Vogue, cover and 18 pages of Harper's Bazaar, Style.com, Ralph Lauren, Coach, Gucci, Prada, Bobbi Brown, Me & Em, Versace, Italian Vogue, i-D, Benetton, The Sunday Times, Marc Jacobs, Vivienne Westwood, 1883, Top Shop, Bottega Veneta, Theory with David Simms, Lesley Goring, Harvey Nichols, Tush, J.JS Lee, Azzedine Alaia, Emelio de la Morena, Bora Akeem, Sibling, Osman, Amanda, Schiaparelli, Self Service with Matteo Montanari, Elie Saab, Viktor & Rolf, The Last Magazine with Dan Martensen and Clare Richardson, as well as Double Magazine.
