5 Questions with D’Angel

Published:Wednesday | March 28, 2018 | 12:00 AMStephanie Lyew/Gleaner Writer

D'Angel celebrates her birthday this weekend and although reluctant to share her age, the first lady of dancehall says her philosophy as it relates to ageing, is to be thankful for gaining another year.

"With age comes growth and maturity, everyone should allow themselves to age gracefully without any fear or trying to do artificial procedures, because it makes matters worst. Take care of your skin and drink lots of water (just like me).

The singjay will be performing alongside Beenie Man, Tommy Lee Sparta and She Nah Leggo deejay, Lanz, at her birthday celebration in Mandeville this weekend. Her goals for 2018 onwards, is to continue making positive music and break barriers so her music can go mainstream.

The Gleaner, asked D'Angel five questions about ageing, her life and dating. See what she had to say.

1. What would be your idea of a perfect date?

D'Angel: The perfect date from start to finish would be having it with someone who is a gentleman. He would open the car door; greet me with roses and pleasant music playing in the car to set the tone. If he decides on taking me for dinner, then of course, he should pull out my chair for me to sit before he sits. My date should be able to make me laugh and have good conversation. After the night is over, take me back home a little hug and you might get a kiss on the cheek if deserving. I'm a little primitive when it comes on to dating and how I'd want to be treated. So gentlemen please take notes.

2. What has been the silliest rumour about you that has made you laugh until your belly bottom hurts?

D'Angel: There have been so many told throughout my career. However, the one that makes me laugh the most is when persons say I do Botox treatments on my face. I'm like seriously, clearly these people don't know me.

3. Describe what a day on the road with D'Angel is like.

D'Angel: A day on the road with me is crazy. It begins early; from dropping Marco-Dean to school, may have a few errands to run before it is time to pick him up back from school. Sometimes there is a studio session booked. I may have rehearsal for shows, as preparation is key. Different meetings may occur during the course of the day as well, depending on what is on the calendar with my team.

4. If you could choose to be a fictional character, who would it be and what would be your theme song?

D'Angel: Wonder Woman of course! I would choose her because she is powerful and strong and always trying to help people. My theme song would be one of my own singles that I am proud of, Stronger. It is my true life story and it strengthens women all across the world who have been through something similar.

5. Do you follow or study astrology?

D'Angel: I believe in some aspects of the study of astrology. For example, the month of April or the sign Aries reflects leadership and strength. Being that it is my month and I personify those characteristics, I can definitely relate to some of what is forecasted. Astrology speaks volumes, to energy and what goes on in the universe and I am seeing some of it reflect in my own life.
