Go Jamaica 2018 — Film Rush! Students vie for J$25,000 prize

For those seeking to dive headfirst into film production with a chance to win J$25,000, Go Jamaica 2018 — Film Rush is coming up next weekend.
Frame of Reference, in association with the Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI) and CARIMAC, have planned a production and post-production two-day workshop targeting students between the ages of 15 and 21 years of age.
Expected to come prepared with a laptop and a smart phone, participants will be engaged in an intensive programme laying the groundwork for passionate, aspiring film professionals. Day one will entail a hands-on film making workshop, and day two will be a competition where participants will shoot and edit their own 3 to 5 minutes project, vying for $25,000.
"It's something we've wanted for about two years, and we finally got the opportunity to apply for funding earlier this year," Fonnique Richardson, co-founder and chief operating officer of Frame of Reference told The Gleaner. Along with Fonnique, Frame of Reference was confounded by Twain Richardson (CEO). The team is completed by video editor, Nicholas Pairman.
"I think we have a lot of people learning that Jamaica is a place for filming. It's a nice space, and we have a lot to offer. We have a lot of people coming to film who would like to know that they can hire professionals and equipment. It's cheaper than flying in a crew. It's time to start investing in young people and young talent, so that they can see it as a viable career option," Garreth Daley, managing director of GD Films told The Gleaner.
Since Frame of Reference specialises in post-production, Paladin Media Group from Charlottesville, Virginia, will lend their expertise to the workshop.
Interested participants will be required to email: event@forpostprod.com with the subject ‘Go Jamaica 2018 Competition’ enclosing their name, school and age. Deadline for application is Saturday, April 21. The workshop will take place on April 27 — 28 at CARIMAC, Annex 2 Building from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
