Chillin' in the Mawnin' Rain

The Sunday-morning festivities at The Verandah in Clarendon could have easily been dampened with warnings of an impeding weather system. But rain or shine, patrons showed their commitment to Wright Image and Murray's Farms' luxurious Chillin' party series, and came out to have a grand time.

Men came out dressed in their Bermuda shorts, polos and brightly patterned Hawaiian-style shirts, and their fairer counterparts showed up colourful, floor-length dresses and jumpsuits. While some women tied their hems, others traipsed through the wetness, not allowing the rainfall to impede them having a good time. The determined partygoers splashed across the lawns of the venue in their sandals and boat shoes, with umbrellas in tow.

Lining the lawns, the buffet was picturesque but waterlogged. Ankle-deep pools formed before the tentsbut the dedicated waitresses were undeterred. With their sneakers sinking into the grass with every step, they tarried through the drizzle (sometimes downpour) with trays filled with Juici cocktail patties, or curried goat and 'food', or French toast with scrambled eggs and escoveitched fish.

For those who chose to fend for themselves, they hunkered down in the covering of The Verandah, waiting for the intermittent moments of extremely light showers before venturing to the food station and outside bars before scurrying back to safety when the rains began again. But there were those who decided to ignore the rainfall altogether.

In front of the deejay's stage, another section of waterlogged lawn was the dance floor, where guests gathered to 'Genna Bounce' and 'Flairy' as many times as the selector told them to.
