Behind every tradition lies a revolution. On Independence Day, the rise of a country's 12 hours of annual lawlessness commences. This movement began as a simple experiment by the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA). To push the crime rate below one per cent for the rest of the year, a sociological theory is tested where one isolated community can vent their aggression for one night. But when the violence of oppressors meets the rage of the marginalised, the contagion explodes from the trial city borders and spreads across the nation.

Directed by Gerard McMurray and starring Y'lan Noel, Lex Scott Davis, Joivan Wade, Mugga, and Marisa Tomei, The First Purge is the fourth instalment in The Purge franchise, and is a prequel depicting the origins of the first annual Purge.
