Spectacular opening for ‘Simply Myrna’

Published:Saturday | February 23, 2019 | 12:27 AM

Anyone who has ever attended a ‘Simply Myrna’ show in the past eight years knows that the opening number is always magical and sets the tone for the evening. You never know whether the star of the show, Dr Myrna Hague Bradshaw, will be masked or accompanied by dancers or a choir. But what we do know is that it will be spectacular and is sure to get the adrenaline going as she commands the stage, dazzling her audience with her voice, dancing skills, and costume changes.

The intimate setting of the Courtleigh Auditorium in New Kingston will be the location for next Saturday’s show (March 2), with the curtain rising at 8 p.m.

Added to her own performance, over the years, Hague Bradshaw has shared the stage with some specially invited guests. These have included the late John Holt, Boris Gardiner, Harold Davis, Dobby Dobson, Richie Stephens, Jamaican-Canadian Jay Douglas, and many more. This year, the legendary Jimmy James will be flying in from London to join Hague Bradshaw, along with balladeer Bunny Rose. “I am so fortunate to have had some of the most talented Jamaican/international entertainers, some of whom I would not normally have had a chance to see, much less have them share the stage with me. I am truly looking forward to our ninth staging of this event,” says Hague Bradshaw.

She also heaped praises on her band of musicians, led by drummer Desi Jones, her musical arranger and director. The other A-list musicians include Amardo Blake on piano; Christopher McDonald on keyboards and background vocals; Joshua Jones, bass; Brandon Benjamin, guitar; Annakim Myers, also on background vocals. In the horn section will be Okiel McKintyre on trumpet and Oshane Love on saxophone.
