Michael Manhardt, producer of the box-office hit movie Unplanned, will be in Jamaica for tomorrow’s international premiere of the film at The Courtleigh Auditorium, New Kingston.

Unplanned dramatises the true story of Abby Johnson, the former director of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Texas. In 2011, Johnson and author Cindy Lambert wrote a book by the same title. Johnson’s story chronicles her transition into Planned Parenthood and her departure eight years later. The R-rated drama shows why an abortion industry insider reversed her stance on this controversial topic.

Manhardt is part of a three-member delegation of international advocates of the human rights of the unborn child to visit Jamaica from May 21-25 on invitation from Jamaica CAUSE, Christians United for Life, The Church of God in Jamaica, and Missionaries of the Poor.

Other members of the visiting team will be Dr Alveda King, niece of the Rev Dr Martin Luther King Jr, American activist, and author and former state representative for the 28th District in the Georgia House of Representatives, together with Janet Morana, executive director, Priests for Life, and co-founder, Silent No More Awareness Campaign, the world’s largest mobilisation of women and men who have lost children to abortion.

King and Morana will participate in a number of activities, including the international movie premiere, interactive sessions with inmates at both the Fort Augusta and Tower Street correctional centres, and the free showing of Unplanned to residents of identified inner-city communities.

Unplanned has been gaining rave reviews and has generated buzz, especially on social media. Since it was released on the big screen in March, it has brought in US$16.6 million.
