Heeding the call of their customers, SPF (Summer. Playground. Fantasy) Weekend promoters have added an entire day, complete with a brand-new culture and cannabis-friendly concert, and reintroduced a beloved DJ music festival to their usually highly anticipated roster of emancipendence events.

“Over the last few years, our SPF Weekenders have been requesting that we host one or two more events to make the overall package more attractive as a weekend getaway, especially for our overseas patrons. So this year, we’re on board to broaden the scope for them,” Mark Lindo, chairman of SPF, told The Gleaner.

Instead of the customary three days, the annual weekend from will now run for four days, from Thursday, August 1, to Sunday, August 4 and it will kick off with I-Rise at the newly launched Kaya Herb House in Drax Hall, Ocho Rios.

“In keeping with the feedback received from our guests, the addition of I-Rise, a culture concert curated by Solid Agency is a new product we’re offering. The truth is this: cannabis is something our overseas patrons are and will continue to be highly interested.

Ideal setup

It also worked out for us that one of our partners, Kaya Herb House, is located right inside of our SPF Weekend home,” said Lindo.

The second day features SPF Weekend favourite Forever Beach. The promoters have partnered with with Chukka Tours to provide river tubing through the White River Valley, for SPF Weekenders on the third day. But that day also brings the return of Fully Loaded::SPF.

“Like I-Rise, Fully Loaded::SPF offers our patrons a new experience on the weekend that will see both local and international DJs alike performing in a setting akin to what obtains at large music festivals around the world such as Ultra and Coachella,” Lindo said.

As usual, Soiree at the Pearly Beach West will close the weekend.

“Next year is our 10th anniversary, so there is great probability that we will add more events to our schedule as we aim to give our patrons a bigger and better experience,” Lindo added.
