Buju collab a perfect fit – Koffee

The official Pressure remix was released last Friday and has since amassed close to 300,000 views. Grammy-winning artiste Koffee teamed up with the Gargamel himself, Buju Banton. The track sees the pair taking on various social issues, such as injustice and poverty, and encourages listeners to stand firm amid the ‘pressures’ of life. In an interview with The Gleaner, Koffee revealed that having been brought under the influence of Banton’s music, she understands the ideologies he shares are similar to the ones expressed on the track, making him what she described as the ‘perfect fit’.

“We have been in contact for a while so when the idea came up, I thought it was a perfect fit. He’s conscious and knows about the ‘pressure’ we are all under. If anything, he’s a perfect example of resilience and not giving up,” she said in an email correspondence revealing also that she’s always been a fan of Banton’s music. “I have nothing but respect for his work ethic, his talent, his lyricism, his wisdom. He’s an amazing artiste. One of the best. A legend,”she continued.

Koffee also shared that so far the track has been receiving some great feedback, which is exactly what she hoped for. “I really wanted this remix to give strength to those who connect with the lyrics. I wanted them to feel the authenticity. His (Buju Banton’s) verses add strength to the song. When people listen to the words we are speaking, I want them to have hope. If this remix can connect with even more people, and a wider audience, then that would be great,” she said.

So far, the Pressure remix has received rave reviews from fans who have dubbed the collaboration one that would have happened sooner or later. Listeners on YouTube say they have been anticipating the collaboration since the Gargamel’s release from prison, and expressed that the song was worth the wait. “I was waiting for this living legend Buju to collaborate with the one and only Koffee.
