Young Reggae Ambassadors on show tonight - Gentlemen take the stage

Reggae lovers across the globe can look forward to another exciting showcase, this time around by the gentlemen representing Reggae Month 2021 Young Reggae Ambassadors. Last night, it was ladies first with an all-woman line-up featuring some of the best of reggae music’s contemporary vanguard, including Jamila Falak, Sherieta, Althea Hewitt, Naomi Cowan, Joby Jay and Shaneil Muir.

Tonight, the gentlemen have their turn to showcase their talents starting at 8:30 p.m. sharp, with the likes of Iba Mahr, Chevaughn, J Summa and the Outlawz, Samory I, and Runkus taking the stage. The vocalists will be accompanied by the prolific Ruff Kutt Band.

Fans can tune in live on the YouTube channels of PBC Jamaica, JamVision or VP Records. Live streaming will also be available on Facebook, via the official pages of the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, and the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission.

The Young Reggae Ambassadors’ two-part concert is just one of many events sustaining the world’s only month-long reggae music festival. “Reggae music is constantly evolving and giving these artistes exposure through these concerts will help the genre to maintain its vibrancy,” Lenford Salmon, chairman of the Reggae Month Secretariat, said.

“The idea for the concerts came from Culture Minister Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange. She recognises the need for fresh talent to sustain reggae’s uniqueness, popularity and global impact and asked the team to implement it,” Salmon added.

The Young Reggae Ambassadors showcases appear as just one feature on a calendar of events planned by the culture and entertainment ministry to celebrate Reggae Month.

In addition to concerts, activities throughout the month include Reggae Symposia (under the banner - Reggae University Series), as well as culturally themed presentations and awards ceremonies. The schedule of events was presented by the culture and entertainment ministry in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism.

Leading partners are the Chase Fund, the Jamaica Tourist Board, the Tourism Enhancement Fund, and the Creative Production and Training Centre, with additional support from local and international media partners.
