Five Questions With Rush Cam

Attorney-turned-content creator and the host of the recently wrapped YouTube series, The Social House, Rushane Campbell, is no stranger to the spotlight. His bold and effortless approach to every venture he explores is nothing short of spectacular, giving all the more reason to congratulate and celebrate. So today, we go beyond the lens to find out more about the man behind the brand. Here are Five Questions With Rush Cam.

1. What’s one thing you know now that you wish you knew before?

I wish I knew or, better yet, understood that as I am, with what I have, I am more than enough and that I am not defined by what I have, who I know, what I do, people’s opinions of me or what I accomplish.

2. What do you like the most and the least about being a content creator, and why?

I love the relationship I have with my community/audience. If you don’t have a bond with those who consume your content, they don’t see you as human; they see you as a ‘content machine’ and a mere source of entertainment. My community sees me as human. They laugh with me, cry with me, and it’s so organic and real. (Hey, RushFam!) But in the social media and content creation world, it sometimes feels like you’re playing the relevance game, and I don’t like that because I am someone who thinks long term and in a more strategic way and not for likes and virality. (I know, I know, but Rush, it’s social media, I know.)

3. Who has been your favourite guest to appear on your channel, and why?

I don’t have a favourite! They’ve all been so amazing, and I am so grateful for their belief in me. I will say that Tami Chin Mitchell’s appearance on my channel was a very nurturing experience. I learned how to eat crab, shared very vulnerable thoughts, sang (which I loooooove to do) and made a lifelong friend. It felt like my homecoming.

4. What’s an ideal case or issue you would love to argue in court and win?

Anything human rights-related. Right now, the right of a woman to do what she chooses with her body.

5. What does family mean to you?

Family means home. It’s comfortable, nurturing, safe, not defined by blood. It feels like a tree that cannot be uprooted.

BRAWTA: If you were prime minister for a year, what would you like to accomplish?

Let me give you five things: increase [the] minimum wage; make improvements to the healthcare system through greater budget allocation; hire more doctors and pay nurses more; introduce more green spaces in Kingston; better student to teacher ratio for better-quality education system, and social investment and community policing in crime-prone areas.
