Cross Country Invasion, Digicel Foundation partner for social outreach
The 18th instalment of Cross Country Invasion kick-starts today and will resume its brand of philanthropic initiatives throughout four weeks.
Cross Country Invasion is an intensive islandwide promotional campaign staged annually by the RJRGLEANER Communications Group. This year, in partnership with the Digicel Foundation, they will be giving back to those in need, especially those impacted by the pandemic.
“As a wholesome family brand, the RJRGLEANER Communications Group sees it as its duty and obligation to assist wherever we can,” Nicarno Williams, marketing and special projects supervisor for the RJRGLEANER Communications Group – broadcast media, told The Gleaner. “Throughout the four weeks of Cross Country across each parish, we’ll try to give someone we identify as a needy organisation, whether it be a school, golden age home, any institution that needs assistance, and check with them to find the items that they need and give it to them.”
He added that several sponsors will also be doing donations at different broadcast sites.
Under the theme ‘The Best of Jamaica at 60’, Cross Country Invasion will start in the west and from March 6 to 12, and make its way to Clarendon, Manchester and St Elizabeth for week two. The third week will cover St Thomas, Portland, St Mary and St Ann. Cross Country Invasion will culminate in Kingston and St Andrew and Portmore from March 27 to April 2.
Activities will include outside and virtual broadcasts, virtual street jams, a dedicated weekly TV show, detailed regional features, sporting challenges and church services. Patrons will be able to experience it all through the group’s powerful brands: TVJ, The Gleaner, Radio Jamaica 94FM, THE STAR, POWER 106FM, FAME 95FM, HITZ 92FM, 1SPOTMEDIA, RETV, JNN and TVJS. All activities will be executed safely and responsibly with a reduced number of persons, along with the COVID guidelines of sanitising, mask-wearing and physical-distancing being strictly enforced.
