April will probably go down as the one of the hardest months for up-and-coming recording artiste Monifa Goss who lost her mother earlier this month. But with the support of members of the music fraternity, she may be able to find some peace and they come together to host a benefit concert to raise funds to take care of funeral costs.

The event is set for today at 7 p.m. at Jangas Soundbar in New Kingston. Performers include D'Angel, Yaksta, LaLee, Yung Rass, Silva Don, Silk Boss, Kashii, Courtney and more. According to Monifa, her mother would be pleased if she were around to witness it.

“I feel good about the support that I have been getting from our artistes. It is something that my mommy would have loved to see. She wanted support and love in everything that she is doing. She was also a lover of music so seeing people in the music community come together to support her, really moves me,” Goss explained.

While the circumstances around the situation are sorrowful, she says she still wants patrons to come out and have a good time because her mother was always the life of the party.

“They can look forward to vibes, she was very vibesy, very vibrant and beautiful. She was just a ball of everything that is good so. So, I want people to come expecting a great time. It’s a great way to spend your Thursday evening and though it is a sad situation, and she is not here, she is still here in spirit. If she were here physically, I know just seeing this would mean so much to her and most of the people performing are people she has always loved as well,” Goss said.

Her mom, Jean Angela Simmonds Oliver, was ill for some time prior to her passing, but she remained her daughter's biggest supporter.

“I’ll remember my mom as the ultimate icon. I always want to remember mommy as a smiling face. My supportive mother, the ultimate mother. She was my biggest supporter and I am everything I am today because of her,” Goss said.

Goss, who does vocals for several reggae and dancehall artistes, is also known for tunes such as Release my Love and Rise.
