The Summit in New Kingston was buzzing music and laughter, as anxious guests anticipated the arrival of man of the moment, Dexta Daps, at his recent Trilogy Tour media launch.

About 8 p.m. the comical singjay, robotically marched his way in and was greeted with loud cheers, applause and flashing cameras, which he acknowledged with a sincere apology for his tardiness. Members of the forgiving crowd, however, were more concerned about his actual presence than his time of arrival. Moderator, Fabian ‘Fyah’ Morris, as a prelude to the night’s festivities, proceded to give away two Trilogy Tour tickets.

This weekend’s three-stop, island tour is distinctively geared towards connecting the headliner, Dexta Daps and his fans on “a more authentic level”, but the artiste explained that he is in the phase of helping to develop younger, talented acts and will also be using this platform to showcase them.

After being tight-lipped about the artiste line-up, Daps finally revealled that patrons in Kingston, Ocho Rios and Negril will be entertained by up-and-coming artistes such as, Young Pharaoh, Seginue and Rally Banks.

“It’s a bunch a dem ... and these are young, upcoming talented artistes that we need to pay attention to and if my job is to expose them, then I’m going to do my job,” the Forever artiste told The Gleaner.

During an intriguing question-and-answer segment, Daps said while he is aware that the males are afraid to willingly allow their female partners to his events, his only advice to them is to tag along.

“Fawud to bredda, a wah happen to yuh man? Yuh a guh see the truth, a just people seh mi a tek weh people woman, a lie dem a tell,” he said, with a laugh as the audience chimed in.

While his fans await a usually high energy and seductive performers from the “dancehall sex symbol”, he noted that a perfect performance for him is when “all his fans have a great time and enjoy themselves”. The No Underwear singer was also quick to highlight that as long as everyone can enjoy “clean and appropriate fun”, the shows will be great.

Daps shared that the inspiration for the shows came during the height of the pandemic when the people were under severe lockdown and the entertainment industry ground to a halt.

“In ‘corona’, there wasn’t nothing much going on, I went to the US and started doing some shows, but most of the promoters were afraid, but me waah work because mi need money and mi have family. So mi tek it up on miself and [decide] to keep some shows because mi realise dem fraid. I realised that by doing that me can present miself inna di fashion I wanted to and invest some money,” Daps told The Gleaner.

He further stated that, in that same period, he started working on his album titled Trilogy, so he decided to tour the album before its release and from that, birthed the Trilogy tour, which he said has been a success thus far.

With great gratitude to the event’s sponsors, Dexta also shared that for his intimate meet-and-greet session at the Trilogy Tour, fans will also be treated to special give-aways, including merch, as a show of his appreciation for the continued years of love and support.

Sharing similar sentiments, Marketing Coordinator for Boom Energy Drink, Kadechah Henry, expressed delight in joining forces with Dap’s marketing agency for the Trilogy Tour, College Connect, in sponsoring the concert.

“As we gear up for the tour, our flagship brand, Boom Energy Drink, WATA are proud to be a part of this momentous occasion as we anticipate three spectacular nights across the nation. We are all excited for Daps on this big stage at home and from Boom deh deh yuh know it’s gonna be a real boom takeover experience,” said Henry.

Campari and Magnum are also among the group of proud sponsors for Dexta’s upcoming concert.

In closing his session, the dancehall sensation whet his fan’s appetite with an engaging performance of a few of his hits such as Forever and Shabba Madda Pot, which got the crowd raving and singing along to every beat.
