Physique Champions to compete in London

At the Sheraton Hotel's ballroom, Kingston Weightlifting Club's Frederick Smith, a 32-year-old foreman in the Jamaica Public Service Company's Electrical Maintenance Department, clinched the 'Mr Jamaica Physique' title in 1975. The audience, a record crowd, showed their enthusiastic support with resounding applause. Marjorie Rose Martin, 27 years old and a sales representative at Ernie Smatt's Water Sports Enterprises Ltd, made history as the first-ever 'Miss Jamaica Body-Beautiful' and also secured the Best Figure award. Both winners will now compete in England.

Smith, Martin win Physique contests

Kingston Weightlifting Club's Frederick Smith, a 32-year-old foreman in the Electrical Maintenance Department of the Jamaica Public Service Company, took the 1975 'Mr Jamaica Physique' title on Saturday night against an explosive background of supportive applause from a record crowd in the Sheraton Hotel's ballroom.

No less spontaneous and emphatic was the approval which greeted the choice of 27-year-old Marjorie Rose Martin, a sales representative of Ernie Smatt's Water Sports Enterprises Ltd, as the first-ever 'Miss Jamaica Body-Beautiful'.

Carrying an impressive 51-inch normal chest, which swells to 53 inches when tensed, the slightly balding champion also won the Best Chest sectional award and the Best Legs prize with thighs measuring 27 inches, calves 17" and ankles at 9 inches.

In outclassing a field of seven finalists, Marjorie Martin, a product of Yvonne Young's Body Fit and Beautiful Health Studios in Ocho Rios, also won the Best Figure award.

Thirty-one-year-old plumber Steve Walters of Conditioned Air and Associated Contractors Limited finished second to Smith and collected the Best Arms prize for a presentation of 17/½ inch biceps, 14 3/4-inch forearms and 7-inch wrists. Keith Peart of National Health Studios was third.

Most promising

Paul Atkinson, a CM Associates employee who has been lifting for five years and trains at Superior Health Studios, took the prestigious Most Muscular Award and the Best Abdominals prize while finishing fourth, just ahead of 22-year-old Leston Allen of Lloyd Young Health Studios of Montego Bay, who swept away the Best Back sectional award and was also acclaimed the Most Promising entrant after only eighteen months of training.

The measurements Frederick Smith will carry to the 'London Universe' shows in England when he and Marjorie Martin compete on Saturday night, September 27, are as follows: Height 5' 10", weight 205 pounds, neck 17", biceps 17-3/4", forearm 14½", wrist 74", chest (Normal) 51", Chest (Expanded) 53", waist 30", thigh 27" and calf 17".

Marjorie Martin's winning statistics on Saturday night were: Height 5'3", weight 108 pounds, Chest 33", waist 23-½" and hips 33".

Second-placed Rosemarie Lyons, 18-year-old student who stands 5'2", weighs 110 pounds and reveals vital figures of 34-24-1/2-36, also carried off the Best Physical Condition prize.

In third place was 21-year- old Claudia Elaine Bodden, Playboy Club bunny, at a height of 5' 14", bodyweight of 108 pounds and a 34-24-34 carriage. Her hobbies are sailing, tennis and dancing and she conditions herself at Yvonne Young's Body Fit and Beautiful Health Studios in Ocho Rios.

Special guest was the Governor General Florizel Glasspole.
