Resolutions vs reality
Already, social media is littered with memes and statuses stating the grand changes that persons intend to make for the new year. Of course, the quest for good health and the perfect body are high on that list, and for others, it is that dream house or car.
But like skinny jeans and chokers, are these resolutions simply a fad? Is it realistic for one to lose 10 lb in two days, or does one become a homeowner by cutting down on fast food for two weeks? How about those that simply cannot be bothered?
According to personal trainer Patrice White, "Resolutions are too cliche, everybody makes them and rarely follow through, so no, I don't believe in fitness or any other type of resolutions. What I believe is, if you want something, get up and do it instead of talking about doing it."
White believes that one's success story is totally dependent on the work and commitment that is put in.
Krystal Tomlinson, a public relations professional, takes goals and personal development very seriously. In fact, Tomlinson has advertised on her social media an event called 2017 on Purpose. She told Flair that this is, in fact, an event that she had scheduled to pen her thoughts and aspirations for the upcoming year. She did not simply want to leave it to chance, so she made a commitment to herself, which she had all intentions of following.
Tomlinson encourages persons to "Write down exactly what you expect to achieve by the end of 2017 in the following areas: personal life (family, intimate partner, your fitness goals, vacation); professional goals (education and training; position in the workplace) and financial (earning, savings, tithing or philanthropy) and put it somewhere where you can always see it and be reminded of the mission you are on. Each day, you will begin to find a way to make each thing happen, and even if you don't get exactly what you had in mind, you are likely to come closer to it than if you had not written it down. Finally, tell someone about it and ask them to keep checking in on you to see how things are going. Accountability and positive reinforcement make all the difference."
Save your phone/tablet batteries and start working on the best version of you for 2017.
