Extra Time and style with RSPL players

We wanted to know what life is like for a footballer once the stadium lights go out and the team jerseys and cleats are off. So, we checked in with three Red Stripe Premier League players: Arnett Gardens' captain and midfielder Marvin Morgan; Cavalier Football Club's midfielder, Alex Marshall; and Dunbeholden Football Club's centre-back, Shaquille Dyerwho showed us their style, and offered some insights into what the holidays mean to them.

Q: Where can we find you during the holidays?

A: During the Christmas, when I am not training or playing in a football match, I enjoy spending time with my 7-year-old daughter and my friends.

Q: What is your favourite Christmas memory?

A: My favourite childhood memory is of getting dressed in my Christmas outfit to go out with friends to take pictures. We would usually go to one of the parks Downtown or Emancipation Park. My favourite adult memory was my first trip to New York. It was a great experience because of all the family get-together and the trips to the city. Most importantly, it was great seeing everyone really happy.

Q: How do you toast the holidays?

A: I love drinking sorrel, especially during the Christmas.

Q:What is your favourite Christmas movie and song?

A: Home Alone is the best Christmas movie of all time and my favourite song is Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas is You.

Q: What is your advice to those who use the holidays as an excuse to over-indulge?

A: Remember that becoming addicted to alcohol can affect both you and your family, and definitely under no circumstances should you drink and drive.

Q:What's your motivation?

A: My team. I train hard because people have high expectations of me.

Q:Who are your heroes, the people you look up to most?

A: My father, Walter Boyd, who played football and was an iconic midfielder for Tivoli Gardens Football Club and Boys Town Football Club. On the international football scene: Lionel Messi, David Silva, Leroy Sane. I like their style and humility. They face high expectations and but they still know how to conduct themselves on and off the field. Here's a fun fact: they are all left foot players but I play with my right foot.

Q:Other than football what's your favourite sport?

A: Basketball, I think I am too short, but I'm good at it.

Q:Do you have any Christmas family traditions?

A: My family's tradition is for all of us to go to church on Christmas Eve.

Q: How do you toast to the holidays?

A: I toast with sorrel.

Q: What advice do you have for those who use the holidays as an excuse to over-indulge?

A: Be responsible. Don't drink so much that you lose control, and if you are going out, make sure you have a designated driver.

Q: What's your motivation?

A: My dream is to play internationally, so I will work hard to make that happen.

Q:Who are your heroes, the people you look up to most?

A: Mesut Ozil and Leon Bailey. They both have had to push and fight to get where they are.

Q:Tell us something we don't know about you:

A: I have passes in 6 CSEC and one CAPE subject.

Q:Other than football what's your favourite sport?

A: It's basketball if I'm not playing football.

Q: Do you have any Christmas family traditions?

A: I have a lot of fun during the Christmas season and I am happy to see this day each year. I use the Christmas season as a time to chill and relax my mind. I usually play video games- my go to games are 'FIFA' and 'Need for Speed'.

Q:How do you toast the holidays?

A: I celebrate with Malta, and of course sorrel.

Q: What advice do you have for those who use the holidays as an excuse to over-indulge?

A: I do not eat a lot of heavy foods during the holidays and I tend to work out a lot to keep in shape. So, I want to encourage people to practice moderation, don't go overboard with food and drink, but still enjoy yourselves.

Q:What's your motivation?

A: My kids, I have two young children.

Q:Who are your heroes, the people you look up to most?

A: My friend, Oneil 'Bigga' Thompson, who plays with Humble Lion Football Club as Center Back. He is always pushing me. We're rivals, but he is a brother to me.

Q:Other than football what's your favourite sport?

A: Shaquile Dyer: Basketball for me too.
