Nadine Antoinette (NA) Dezigns N More, is a burgeoning brand and one you need to get familiar with, especially this spring season.

It’s owned by Nadine Walters, a talented designer who immaculately brings her creativity to life with each stitch. Recently, she launched a multipurpose bag line with fashionably eye catching pieces. Although it’s her first time making the female go to necessity, Walters has mastered the craft. Initially, the home-based creative, focused on clothing, sheet sets, cushions and curtains. But an impulse to challenge herself, forced her to make the essentials.

“I was first taught by my mother and sister-in-law, but studied designing at Hollywood School of Fashion, at Balmoral Avenue. That was many years ago when I had just left high school. That’s how I know to coordinate the different colours and come up with the trendy styles. I try to make them more attractive than what is already out there,” she explained.

The recent ban on plastic bags also motivated Walters to explore the pocketbook making arena. Her dynamic debut pieces were ardently welcomed, which has caused her to broaden the line and offer a greater variety of the lady’s accessory.

MODISH PIECES

Grab and goes, Walters’ rendition of mini totes, full totes and oryany bags are her specialities. As she passionately explained, the totes are extremely useful and are not just limited to work or school purposes. A trip to the supermarket perhaps is when you’ll find them more useful. And as for the oryanies, you might find them to as sporty baby bag.

By profession, Walters is secretary to the finance and administration manager at Aeronautical Telecommunications Limited. But she talks with fervour about her rewarding past time.

“It’s like my second job. I’ve always been sewing, but I have never done it on this wide scale. I started a career and even changed it, but I couldn’t let go of this craft. However, now that I have realised my potential, I intend to continue this business,” she told Flair.

She continued: When I sew and make these awesome items, it relaxes my mind. I get lost in sewing, I will just forget about everything around me.”

Canvas and burlap are the most popular materials that Walters utilises in her executions. The latter is her favourite of the two. She believes it speaks to an Afrocentric appeal, which she naturally relates to because of a growing appreciation of the African culture. She believes that just as her current clients adore the fabric, it will undoubtedly recommend itself to you too.

“What’s even better about my bags are that the insides are modishly lined. So, you can wear them on both sides (regular and on the reverse side) and still make a fashion statement,” Walters said.
