The 14th staging of the Relet Barbecue and Family Fun Day transformed the grounds of Relet Preparatory School in Marlie Mount, St Catherine, into a first-rate food zone.

According to organiser Welton Codner, the event has become very popular.

When Food visited the location there were fried, barbi-fried, baked, and jerked chicken; curried goat; fried fish; and chicken foot soup.

These dishes were accompanied by rice and peas, turned cornmeal, roasted breadfruit, yam and bread.

Staff and volunteers busily prepared the meals on open flames, which were then transferred to the area reserved for sharing.

Food was told that the event was used to foster good relations between the school and business communities.

"We have persons who are a part of the school community and business community who look forward to this event. We remain relevant by the support we have received throughout," Codner said.

Meanwhile, several patrons said that the event is a must-attend each year.

"We love the barbecue as it helps to keep the unity among the people, so this is just another happy year," said Moreen Brown.
