Enjoying the Flavours of Jamaica
Last Tuesday, The Office of the Prime Minister, hosted its annual media appreciation party, with an experience dubbed Taste of Jamaica.
Upon entering the lawns of Jamaica House, the aroma of Jamaican flavours had taste buds in a tailspin, trying to figure out where to start.
Many started with the traditional appetiser - soup. This was not just any soup, however. It was a very flavourful cow skin soup by Paulette Thomas of Naine, St Elizabeth. It was so good, many could not stop at just one cup.
Everyone knows that Portland is famous for jerked pork. Gold Teeth Jerk represented the parish and did not disappoint with well-seasoned jerked pork that was full of flavour. Nothing went to waste. Even the liver and heart were jerked. Shrimp lovers were doing flips for UJ and Aunty 1 Stop Shrimp, from Middle Quarters. Peppered and curried shrimp were endless and were a favourite among guests.
Many made their way to 'Red Hills Road' for Shaggy's jerked chicken, and it was delivered with aromatic perfection. Guests got a touch of the ocean as Aunt May's Fish from Hellshire was ready and waiting.
And if you wanted to feel like you were at a backyard barbecue, Oniel's roast yam and salt fish would have been the place for you. To wash this all down there was an abundance of cocktails and cool jelly coconut from the Cooper's Market booth.
All this with fine entertainment from Ding Dong and Ravers Clavers who had Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sports Olivia 'Babsy' Grange and Member of Parliament Alando Terrelonge doing the 'Genna bounce'. Clifford 'Mr Vegas' Smith followed with an equally entertaining performance, all creating the perfect backdrop for guests to enjoy the different flavours of Jamaica.
