Owner Borzana Jones, has made it her mission to entice and satisfy the sweet tooth all year round. But she takes extra pleasure in the excitement of this seductive splendour.
“Despite offering these gift options throughout the year, Valentine’s Day is one of my biggest days,” she told Food in a recent interview.
The idea to make an entry into the world of dessert was born out of a special delivery requested by a family member.
“My aunt in Florida ordered one as a gift. I thought to myself, ‘Wow, this is a unique gift idea’. So upon my return to Jamaica, I started experimenting.”
Blossoming from her love for fruits growing up, she bloomed from ‘flowers’ of encouragement shared via colleagues. The rest became entrepreneurial history.
Now operating as a home-based business in Mandeville, Fruity Flavaz Edible Arrangements has so far stood out as a novel, healthy and creative option. From fruit platters for parties, chocolate covered strawberries and tropical fruit arrangements of pineapple, watermelon, grapes, kiwi and fruits which are in season, to personalized gift baskets with nuts, wine, cookies and other edibles, Jones does it all! She picked up the inspiring pairing of wine with chocolate while viewing American cable channel, Food Network.
Reception for Jones, who is also a full time educator, has been wonderful. And she has happy customers who continue to return for more creative orders. Her most memorable order bore fruit when she was afforded a catering opportunity to provide dessert for a wedding. It was her first time embarking on a nuptial journey and the reviews were excellent.
So what's next for the creative? She plans to dabble with other gift options and take a class in fruit and ice carving.
