Plushh Bar & Lounge bringing life to Portmore

Published:Thursday | February 6, 2020 | 12:00 AM

Portmore has been around for decades, but recent development in the Sunshine City has led more and more businesses to set up shop there.

In addition to BPOs, gyms and chain establishments, restaurants and sports bars have also started appearing in the town.

Sitting neatly in the far corner of the busy shopping and business centre of Portmore Pines Plaza, the open-air-styled Plushh Bar & Lounge looks like it was plucked right out of Kingston or Montego Bay and gently placed in Portmore for its residents to enjoy.

The menu is similar to that of most bars and lounges, so you can expect to see pastas, burgers, wings and a variety of drinks. Plushh’s menu also comes with a few extras like the sweet chilli flatbread, sorrel glazed pork chops, pressed green plantains, and callaloo sliders – I’ve never seen callaloo sliders on a bar menu.

SIGNATURE BURGER

This restaurant is also home to the Plushh Signature Burger, which is a thick mound of beef topped with American and Swiss cheeses, lettuce, onions, and tomatoes between chunks of raisin bread. I know that the last part sounds a little strange because you’ve probably never heard of a burger being made with raisin bread, but it tastes so good.

The raisin bread is warmed and slightly toasted. The meat is well seasoned and tastes freshly ground, which gives restaurants that use frozen meat a run for their money. The sweetness of the raisins comes together with the bold taste of the meat to give a nice mix of flavour while you chew. You can request it cooked to your preference – medium, medium-well, well-done. This burger is served with fries and I suggest pairing it with a very cold beer for maximum enjoyment. You should also add bacon if you want to be extra.

RAVING WINGS

The first time I visited Plushh Bar & Lounge, it was to try their wings because I had heard very good things. The good things are true because every time I return, I have to add them to my order. My personal favourites are the sweet Thai chilli and the buffalo wings. Both types pack the right amount of spice and the wings are decently sized. They also go great with the pressed green plantains.

Both food and drinks are affordable, the staff is polite and the bartender makes the best drinks! They do have a dress code, which, in my opinion, takes it out of the list of ‘places to randomly stop’ if you’re just running a quick errand. The dress code has never been enforced on me, but I wanted to give you a heads-up just in case they don’t allow you to wear flip-flops inside.

Plushh Bar & Lounge is open between the hours of 5 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. from Monday to Thursday, and 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. on the weekends. They’re also on social media so you can check out their full menu on their Instagram page.

Until next time, if the question is food, the answer is always yes.
