Let food be your medicine and your medicine be your food. For centuries, herbal teas have provided a host of nutritional benefits such as relieving stress and boosting the immune system. Looking to revitalise one hot or cold sip at a time is Zon Teas Limited.

The company has led with innovation, producing a premium tisane from the highly protected plant, McGhie Jamaican cinnamon ginger. Awardees in attendance at The Flair Distinguished Luncheon, their guests, and sponsors received the opportunity to try the tea for themselves, and they were impressed with its unique rich flavour. General Manager of Zon International Holdings Limited, Shanique Ellington, had a light chat with Food about the wonderful product. According to Ellington, coffee and Milo, even what we call peppermint or tea bags, are not real teas, but warm beverages.

SMOOTH ON THE PALATE

“Light ginger aroma and taste, with nice notes of peppermint and rosemary, McGhie Jamaican cinnamon ginger tea is very smooth on the palate,” she shared. Currently patented in 25 countries, the tea is a cup above the rest as the only patented tisane in the world. “Right now, this tea is so important to your health. If you incorporate it into your diet, a glass per day, it is much more impactful towards getting to a healthy lifestyle than doing a lot of drastic changes.” The tea is not just tasty, but anti-inflammatory and an immune system booster. Some suggest it lowers blood sugar. It has top researchers to back its claims and success. The government administration, both previous and current, are in support of the product, which boasts, in patriotic pride, Jamaica’s national colours.

Already, the company is working at strengthening the science behind it that improves every day, and the organisation is in the process of meeting the high demands internationally. It can be consumed as a warm tea. “Everyone that came here said they didn’t need honey because the tea has a nice flavour profile, so no sugar or honey to sweeten.” But it was available for those who had that preference. It can also be an iced tea: after it is brewed, ice is added and it is infused with lemon and lime. Additionally, it can be infused with coffee. “Coffee is important and very strategic with our infusion because Jamaica has one of the best coffees in the world, Blue Mountain coffee. Research has shown that when you consume coffee and alcohol, it reduces the available iron in your body. But consuming the Zon Teasan after drinking alcohol mitigates these effects,” she added.
