A 59-year-old teacher of St Richard's Primary School in St Andrew has been charged with injuring a student with a ruler.

The grade-five teacher, Beverly Dinnall, was charged yesterday and offered station bail at $50,000.

Dinnall is to appear before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on January 5. She is being represented by attorney-at-law Peter Champagnie.

Champagnie told The Gleaner that she was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

It is alleged that the teacher, from Norbrook, hit the male student with a ruler, resulting in a shoulder injury.

Following a medical examination, a report was made to the police culminating in charges being brought against the teacher.
