Show you paid - PNP general secretary urges JP White to prove he cleared $17m tax debt
People's National Party (PNP) General Secretary Paul Burke says he has advised prospective North Trelawny candidate, John-Paul White, to release, today, documents proving he has satisfied an outstanding $17-million debt with Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ).
"Based on the documentation I have received from Mr White today, I am satisfied that the matter has been rectified with the tax department," Burke told The Gleaner last night.
"I advised Mr White to release all the documents to the media and I expect that sometime tomorrow (Wednesday), he will release all these documents from the Tax Administration Jamaica to show that he has paid in accordance with the agreement that he had signed."
The TAJ had, on January 28, served White's project-management company, Equilibrio Solutions Jamaica Limited, with a notice to pay $17 million in overdue taxes "forthwith".
Reports in the media yesterday suggested that the tax debt had become a source of concern and that the PNP was considering replacing White, who is due to be nominated on February 9 to run against the Jamaica Labour Party's Dennis Meadows in North Trelawny.
The general election takes place on February 25.
