Spreading the Christmas cheer | Digicel brings gifts aplenty to downtown Kingston tree lighting

From toys for more than 500 children to smartphones, tablets, credit, cash and vacations, Digicel brought the spirit of giving to the downtown Kingston Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony held at the St William Grant Park on Tuesday.

A surprise giveaway of $10,000 was well timed for two single moms - Kasia Reid and Simone Simon - who shared their touching stories on the Digicel stage.

ZJ Sparks, who hosted the Digicel giveaways, gave parents the opportunity to get some well-needed help by inviting them to the stage, after which the crowd voted for them to share the prize.

"Winning the money was a really a huge relief for me," shared Reid. "I just left the Bustamante Children's Hospital with my asthmatic 11-month-old and I didn't have enough money to buy his medication, so I'm grateful and very happy for this gift from Digicel."

Similarly, Simon expressed gratitude for the money, which she says will go towards her son's school fee in January.

Omar Wilson, whose three children received toys at Digicel's Get Gifted Santa Village, said, "Trust mi, mi glad fi this. I never had any money to buy the kids any Christmas presents this year. It's been a rough year, so toys and those things never made it into the budget this time, so I really appreciate it."

Sylvester McLeod, a jeweller who stopped in the park to purchase a new phone, was surprised with two day passes to an all-inclusive resort.

"In all my life, I've never won anything, so this really made my Christmas," said an elated McLeod.
