Bernard-Lowe hailed for faith, resilience
The life of Sharon June Antoinette Bernard-Lowe, mother of accomplished Gleaner sports writer and editor Andre Lowe, was one of fight, dedication, motivation and hard work.
Bernard-Lowe, who passed away in hospital last month, was celebrated in a colourful service of thanksgiving for her life at the Faith Gospel Hall, Church of the Firstborn of Jamaica, in Seaforth, St Thomas, Saturday.
Bernard-Lowe, who also had two daughters, Shaniece Lowe and Shyreen Lowe, played a sterling role in her children's life. Her influence was not lost on the many who attended as they paid tribute to her in songs, poems and kind words.
"She was the epitome of love. She provided love to so many of us and taught us how to love. To me, she was everything. I learnt so much from her about faith and resilience. The greatest legacy is how you impact people, and she really impacted a lot of us," Andre reflected in his tribute.
Daughter Shyreen said, "I will never forget everything you told me ... . I am going to make you proud".
MOTHER TO MANY
During the eulogy, Bernard-Lowe was described by her younger sister, Diane Francis, as a woman who loved and lived for Christ and was a mother to many. Francis recalled a time when Bernard-Lowe had seven nieces and nephews under her care.
"Sharon shared a very valuable lesson. In her last moments, when she was supposedly at her weakest, her strength became even more evident to us. Before she passed, Sharon's lesson to her son and the rest of us was one of staying close to God and believing in His purpose regardless of the situation," said Francis.
Bernard-Lowe was 54 years old.
Several members of the media fraternity were in attendance to support the family.
