The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) yesterday added its voice to those paying tribute to business stalwart William 'Billy' McConnell, who died on Wednesday at the age of 71.

"Mr McConnell was an outstanding businessman of great integrity and reputation and served the PSOJ as honorary secretary and as a vice-president for many years. He was honoured by the organisation in 2016 with his induction into the Private Sector Hall of Fame," said the PSOJ in a release.

"His astute advice and quiet brilliance were of immeasurable value to our organisation and the business community at large, and he will be sadly missed. Our hearts go out in sympathy to his family, friends, and business associates, who feel the pain of his loss."

McConnell, a chartered accountant, made his mark at several private sector entities but none more so than Lascelles De Mercado & Co Ltd and the Wray & Nephew Group of Companies, where he served as managing director.

He served as a member of several boards and was a member of the board of the Jamaica Observer newspaper at the time of his death.
