Shaw secures coffee deal

Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries Audley Shaw has secured a deal with a company that will purchase at least 30,000 boxes of coffee beans at a reasonable price from coffee farmers.

"One company stopped buying coffee last week, and I've negotiated with another company to start buying coffee this week. Don't worry. Your coffee will start selling by tomorrow (today). You can start supplying your coffee again," Shaw disclosed during yesterday's 69th annual general meeting of the All-Island Jamaica Cane Farmers Association, at the Spanish Court Hotel, New Kingston.

"Start picking your coffee. I have a company that [is] ready to buy 30,000 boxes right now at a fairly good price, between $3,800 and $4,000 a box," the minister told the meeting.

He promised to make a formal statement on the matter by today.
