A diverse group, including several persons who have not yet made it on to the national stage, has been nominated for this year's RJRGLEANER Honour Awards, with nominations set to be closed today.

They join some of the island's best-known companies, non-governmental organisations, and individuals who have also been nominated.

Among the nominees so far is Police Constable Shanan Callom, who gives up his free time to help prepare students at the Guanaboa Vale Primary School for the Grade Six Achievement Test after they lost their mathematics teacher.

Recommendations also include Ricardo Allen, a young man promoting technology-based education; volunteers Katrin Casserley (Hanover Charities) and Omar Valentine, L'Acadco; and

Dr Ava Eagle Brown, who will be targeting local talent for the production of her coming-of-age film The Mango Girl.

Young sprint sensation Briana Williams and Diamond League discus champion Fedrick Dacres are among those nominated in the Sport category.

Local business giants Red Stripe and LASCO are joined by others such as Three Angels Pharmacy, MC Systems Ltd and LoanCirrus Ltd, while the CHASE Fund, the National Parenting Support Commission, and the Jamaica Cancer Society are included in the categories Health and Wellness, and Education.

The RJRGLEANER Honour Awards has been at the forefront of efforts to acknowledge the progress that Jamaica has made through the achievement of individuals, companies or other groups since 1979, highlighting the accomplishments of Jamaicans in all sectors of the society.

Members of the public are invited to help identify the persons and organisations that made a positive impact on Jamaica within the past 12 months in any of the following categories:

- Arts and Culture

- Public Service

- Sport

- Education

- Science and Technology
