Stephen B. Facey appointed new chairman of CAPRI
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of PanJam Investment Limited (PanJam) Stephen B. Facey has been appointed as the new chairman of the Caribbean Policy Research Institute (CAPRI), which was made official at the think tank's most recent quarterly board meeting.
Addressing his new role, Facey said: "As a long-time supporter of CAPRI's activities, I am happy for this opportunity to oversee the institute's board and help guide it towards achieving its long-term goals. The work CAPRI does is invaluable in helping our country's leaders make policy decisions based on empirical evidence, and I look forward to the next few years of policy impact."
Following a successful 2018, which saw the think tank working with the Government of Jamaica on projects such as the implementation of a public service citizen feedback tool, deposit refund system for PET bottles, and a voucher system to subsidise care work where needed, CAPRI already has a full work agenda for 2019. This includes work on cryptocurrency regulation, financial sector regulation, the economic value of public spaces, an anti-gang strategy, and the cost of sexuality-based discrimination.
Facey has replaced Dr Marshall Hall, who will remain on the board of directors. He will join Professor Alvin Wint, Dr Welsey Hughes, Oliver Clarke, David McBean, Onika Miller, and Jacqueline Sharp in overseeing the governance of The University of the West Indies-based think tank, which celebrated its 10th anniversary last year.
Facey joins CAPRI's board with over 35 years of experience in real estate development and management, private equity investing, and architecture.
In addition to chairing CAPRI's board of directors, Facey is the chairman of the Boys' Town Infant and Primary School as well as the C.B. Facey Foundation, the charitable arm of PanJam. He also serves as chairman of Jamaica Property Company Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of PanJam; Kingston Restoration Company Limited; the New Kingston Civic Association; and the New Castle Group of Companies.
He is a director of Sagicor Group Jamaica Limited, Sagicor Life Jamaica Limited, Chukka Caribbean Adventures Limited, the Jamaica Developers Association, and the National Gallery of Jamaica. He is also a trustee of the Institute of Jamaica.
