The trial of reputed gang leader Uchence Wilson and his 23 alleged cronies has been adjourned until Monday due to the inability of a defence attorney to attend today’s proceedings.

Attorney-at-law Tamika Harris last Monday informed the court that she would not be able to attend court yesterday or today due to personal difficulties.

The prosecution was expected to call a police witness who would give evidence in relation to her client, Derron Taylor, on these days.

Meanwhile, two representatives from one of the island’s telecommunications companies gave testimony yesterday, explaining data that had been extracted from mobile phones seized from alleged gang members.

One of the witnesses explained to the court how an international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) number and a subscriber identity module (SIM) differed from the international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI).

They also explained how the interaction between a cell tower and cellular phone can be used to determine the location from which a call was made.

Wilson and his 23 alleged gang members, which include four women and, policeman, are on trial for breaches of the Criminal Justice (Suppression of Criminal Organisations) Act 2014, commonly known as the anti-gang legislation, for crimes allegedly committed between 2015 and 2017.

They are also being tried for breaches of the Firearms Act.
