Businesses on Chancery Street near Meadowbrook in St Andrew were forced to close early yesterday in the wake of a gun attack that claimed the life of a 19-year-old man. The incident occurred in the vicinity of the Meadowvale Seventh-day Adventist Church and Shoppers Delite supermarket, formerly called Price Rite.

A business operator in the area told The Gleaner that the mayhem erupted some time after 1 p.m., causing pedestrians to scramble for safety.

In the aftermath of the shooting, the teen was discovered suffering from gunshot wounds. He subsequently died on the spot.

Two others persons injured in the assault were rushed to hospital. The severity of their injuries are not known and a motive for the shooting has not yet been determined by the police, The Gleaner was told.

Staff working in nearby stores were said to be visibly shaken and sent home early.
