PM brushes aside debate on obeah, sexuality and abortion

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says his administration will not be distracted by discussions in the public domain on abortion, sexuality and obeah.

In a release yesterday, Holness declared that he will defend the traditional institution of the family.

According to Holness, his administration is focused on the economic prosperity and well-being of the Jamaican people.

The prime minister made the pronouncement at the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) yesterday during a Father’s Day picnic titled ‘Furthering Healthy Families with Fathers’.

“I have been following all the discussions, and if you put them together, it could very well seem to be an assault on the traditional values of the society and how we see our traditional institutions. This Government that I lead is committed to preserving the institution of the family as we have understood it, and our parents have understood it.”

REAL THREATS

Holness stressed that the Government was focusing on the real threats to the institutions of the society. He cited poverty and the lack of economic growth and opportunity for the masses as threats the administration was working to eliminate.

Delivering a message to fathers, Holness urged them to play a greater role in the lives of young children. He appealed to fathers to protect their families, in particular, their boys.
