Cops probe whether murder linked to gun seizure in HWT

The St Andrew North police are probing whether the death of a man in Grants Pen late Monday is linked to an ongoing investigation involving the deceased man ‘s older sibling.
Dead is 20-year-old Dylant ‘Tom Tom’ Wedderburn, a vendor of Shortwood Lane in St Andrew.
Reports reaching The Gleaner are that Wedderburn was shot dead and another man injured after unknown assailants approached them as they stood by Wedderburn’s stall.
According to the police, the incident occurred about 9:50 p.m. and the gunmen, who were posing as customers, made there escape in a waiting motor car.
Wedderburn and the other man were rushed to hospital, where Wedderburn was pronounced dead and the injured man admitted in stable condition.
The Gleaner understands that there has been a level of unease in the community following an incident in which five people were shot, one fatally, and a firearm recovered as gunmen and cops traded bullets in Half-Way Tree on June 7.
Several agencies, including the Independent Commission of investigations, and the Inspectorate of Constabulary, have opened investigations into the incident.
Residents told The Gleaner that Wedderburn is the younger sibling of the man held by the police in Half-Way Tree and that the firearm seized almost two weeks ago might have been the reason for Monday’s deadly attack.
“You know how it guh when you live by the system, and from the Half-Way Tree incident, dem talk it say the machine affi pay for, or else. It nuh look like the money run and we see the results,” one resident told our news team yesterday.
A senior police officer with knowledge of the ongoing investigation confirmed that the police are of a reasonable view that incidents are connected.
