UPDATED: Crime Stop celebrates 30 years

Published:Thursday | September 19, 2019 | 12:00 AM

The crime-fighting agency Crime Stop is celebrating its 30th anniversary, which will, this Saturday, culminate in a banquet.

Ontario Court of Appeal judge Justice Michael Tulloch will be the guest speaker at the event, which will be held at the Spanish Court Hotel in New Kingston, St Andrew.

The Canadian-Jamaican was appointed to the Ontario Court of appeal in 2012 after serving as a justice on the Ontario Superior court of Justice since 2003.

The doors to the venue will open at 7 p.m., with dinner being served promptly at 8 p.m.

The cost of the ticket is $15,000 while the cost for a table of 10 is $140,000.

Crime Stop Manager Prudence Gentles told The Gleaner that the anti-crime organisation’s anniversary speaks to the effectiveness of the programme.

“What it means is that we are running a very successful programme. If anybody had been compromised by using Crime Stop, we would not have been in existence any more. So we must be doing something right,” she said.

Crime Stop is a partnership among the community, the police, and the media. It is designed to involve the public in the fight against crime.
