‘Bomb a go drop - Accused Brown’s Town councillor heightens expectations in CMU-Ruel Reid scandal; denies charges against her

Kim Brown Lawrence, the councillor for the Brown’s Town division in St Ann, charged alongside former Education Minister Ruel Reid and Fritz Pinnock, president of the Caribbean Maritime University (CMU), has broken her silence on the matter.

Brown Lawrence was arrested last week before being offered bail in the sum of $1 million when she appeared before the court to answer to the charges against her.

Brown Lawrence, 40, is charged with conspiracy to defraud and possession of criminal property.

However, writing on Facebook over the weekend, Brown Lawrence said that it was a rumour that she accepted funds and fixed roads with money allegedly channelled from the CMU.

“It is a rumour that I am involved with the CMU or the Ministry of Education. When the truth comes out about April-November last year 2018, you are going to say ‘then a dat deh dem kick off the women door and frighten her kids dem fa 5 a.m. (sic)’,” Brown Lawrence wrote, seemingly denying the charges against her while telling of her experience with the police during last week’s raid.

“Just sit back and watch the process cause a BOMB AGO DROP,” she added.

The councillor said she has been shown overwhelming love and support since becoming caught up in the scandal.

“I went to Brown’s Town and people cried, hugged me and [cried saying] they couldn’t sleep”.

The councillor went on to allege that politics was involved in her name being dragged into the scandal.

“Just know that politics is involve and they will do anything, so I have to be careful (sic),” Brown Lawrence asserted.

Both Brown Lawrence and Reid have or had interests in North West St Ann.

It’s the constituency where Reid had been installed to represent the Jamaica Labour Party and was being touted as the person the party would put up to run on its ticket in the next general election, due by 2021.

Brown Lawrence is a councillor in the constituency, who, subsequent to the demise of Reid, had applied to the party to replace him.

She is being represented by attorney-at-law Christopher Townsend.
