Man shocked at Sangster Airport

The 28-year-old labourer who was electrocuted at the Sangster International Airport Wednesday morning was reportedly using a drill that became entangled in high-tension wires.

Identified as Triston Rose of a Rhyne Park, Rose Hall, St James, address, the labourer was reportedly working for We Po Construction, the company contracted to construct aspects of the multimillion-dollar airport expansion project, which includes the lengthening of the runway.

Rose, who hails originally from Kellits, Clarendon, was killed at 1 a.m., the police have said.

Reports are that Rose was installing tarpaulin when the equipment brushed wires, electrocuting him on the spot.

A statement issued by MBJ Airports Limited, operators of Sangster, said that its officials, as well as the contractor, had commenced investigations into the incident.

“The airport extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the individual in the wake of this tragedy,” said the release on Wednesday morning.

Up to press time, MBJ said it had no updates to share with this newspaper.

“We are awaiting both the police and the contractor’s report,” Sharon Hislop, the airport’s commercial development manager, told The Gleaner.
